Ontario’s Resolution R4 (on gender identity): OCRCC Responds
Ontario Coalition of Rape Crisis Centres (OCRCC) denounces resolution R4, the PC government’s recent draft resolution to not recognize gender identity. If confirmed, this resolution would guide the Ontario’s PC party’s policies.
The inclusion of gender identity in curriculum, school-based learning and policy reflects the lived realities of diverse sexuality, gender identity, gender expression and diverse bodies in Ontario today. Contrary to Resolution R4, we assert that gender identity is real.
To remove this reality from schools and other public institutions will have serious consequences. As Ottawa Centre NDP MPP Joel Harden noted, the new policy is a “denial of trans people’s humanity.”
