Trans, Genderqueer, Non-binary, Two Spirit and Intersex Equity Statement
The Ontario Coalition of Rape Crisis Centres (OCRCC) is committed to creating safer and accountable spaces for trans, genderqueer, non-binary, Two Spirit, and intersex people at our table.
We are a network of Rape/Sexual Assault Centres (SACs) who support survivors of all genders and work to address sexual violence using an intersectional feminist approach. That said the OCRCC recognizes the autonomy of its members centers; and we acknowledge that not all Centres serve all genders.
In the context of the anti-sexual violence movement, we believe it is essential that we recognize the historical contribution made by survivors with intersecting identities. We recognize the criticism that the feminist movement has excluded trans, genderqueer, non-binary, Two Spirit, and intersex survivors, as valid. We believe in order to strengthen the movement to end violence, the voices of all survivors must be lifted up to our table.
At the OCRCC, we aim to be inclusive of survivors across the gender spectrums. We believe that it is important to center the voices of those who face the most barriers and have the least access to relevant services. These voices include people who identify as women, trans, genderqueer, non-binary, Two Spirit, and intersex.
We believe that having gender diverse people at the OCRCC table together, will enrich conversations, deepen our understanding of sexualized violence and move our work to end sexual and gender-based violence forward.
It is our commitment as members of the OCRCC to work toward inclusion of these survivors as valued community members. The OCRCC commits to doing the ongoing and practical work of equity including but not limited to; training, self-awareness work, discussion and dialogue, governance work and policy work. We conduct these various practices in order to continually create safer and accountable spaces within the OCRCC for survivors of all genders.
